Safe Sleep Education Packets:
These 6x9" resealable bags contain a brief
introductory letter, a safe sleep pamphlet,

a
door hanger, and a diaper bag ID tag. Each of the items feature
the American Academy of Pediatrics risk reduction
recommendations and the brochure has additional SIDS facts. We
are currently out of Spanish diaper bag tags, however all of the
other materials in the packets are bilingual.
The intended recipients of these packets are new
or expecting parents who are receiving services through well
child examinations, labor and delivery discharge procedures, WIC
clinics, community health centers and/or childbirth education
classes.
**PLEASE NOTE:
These materials currently do NOT include
the updated recommendatioins from the American Academy of
Pediatrics that were released October 18, 2011. Revising and
reprinting these materials are currently being evaluated.
We do have a limited supply still available with the English

Safe Sleep for Iowa Babies DVD and
Educational Brochures: The Iowa SIDS
Foundation is pleased to announce the upcoming release of a 20
minute educational DVD with corresponding safe sleep brochure.
The DVD has two tracks, one for

parents/grandparents
and one for childcare providers. It features 3 Iowa
families sharing their baby's story and SIDS experience while
reinforcing the risk reduction recommendations established by
the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The ideal
recipient of this product would be childbirth educators, labor
and delivery units, childcare educators, and other Iowa
providers that provide health and safety information to parents,
grandparents, or Iowa childcare providers.
The DVDs are
NOT intended to be sent home from the healthcare facility with
patients, rather to be used as an educational resource in the
healthcare setting. The brochure is the take home piece
for patients and summarzie the AAP risk reduction
recommendations.
**PLEASE NOTE:
On October 18, 2011, the American Academy
of Pediatrics released an updated policy statment that will
slightly change this resource. It is the intent of our
Foundation to offer an revised version in both English and
Spanish as soon as possible, we have had a slight delay from our
January 15th goal. We will post a notice on this page when
these resources are availabe, thank you for your patience. Until that time,
we have an adequate supply of the brochure, as is, for

Iowa SIDS Foundation
Newsletter: The Iowa SIDS Foundation prints and
distributes a newsletter three times a year, typically in March,
July, and November. The newsletter contains current
research, upcoming events, recognizes donors, and remembers
those special babies. To request to be added to our

are also available electronically on our homepage and on the
resources page.

In addition to the materials listed above, we have numerous
resources available for specific audiences on SIDS, safe
sleep/risk reduction, grief, and training resources. For

Presentations/Workshops/Displays: The Iowa
SIDS Foundation has trained staff and volunteers available to
present a workshop tailored to your educational needs.
Previous audiences have included childcare providers, parent
education networks, paramedics, law enforcement, grandparent
groups, healthcare providers, teen parents, and social service

This training has been approved by the Iowa Department of Human
Services.
**All materials are provided free of charge to
Iowa families, healthcare providers, and childcare providers.
Materials have been funded through grants, private memorials,
and corporate donations.
